I'm a 62yo mediocre golfer at best. I only started playing golf seriously about four years ago during COVID when I started taking golf lessons from a local pro and actually started developing a game. I'll never be great, but I am at the point where I can embrace my "suckiness," stop throwing clubs and the profanities are almost non-existent.
On recommendation from my golf club driver manufacturer, based on the club face technology, I need a firmer ball so I've been playing ProV1's, which I do well with . . . until I lose about six during a rough day, which adds about another $35.00 to my round cost! I've been on the hunt for a "comparable" golf ball at a much lower price point, and I've tried a ton. Then I started reading about Cut Golf, and found a crazy deal on the Cut Grey which seemed to come close enough to what I would consider on spec with my ProV1's (except I normally only play yellow golf balls.) I bought three dozen at under $10.00 per(!) and I went out last Friday and played nothing but the Grey's and I gotta tell you, these things are freakin' amazing!
First off, they feel nice and firm but not too firm (80 compression compared to 87 on the Titleists.) Secondly, they fly straight as an arrow, which for me is a blessing AND a curse, because I have a problem aiming in the right direction so a bunch of these ended up in the woods or a pond or two. But at less than a buck a ball, who cares! And most importantly, at my age and slower swing speed, and my tendonitis in both arms, during that first round I actually hit a 235 yard drive straight down the fairway, my second longest drive ever!!!
I wish I had heard of these golf balls before I bought my last few dozen ProV1's, but I've already decided to stock up on another four or five dozen Cut Grey's as these will be my primary golf ball going forward. Thanks, Cut, for making a real competitive, quality, affordable product for weekend warriors like myself - and soon my friends, too. You could actually disrupt this whole segment of the golf ball market. Viva la Cut!!!
